Advisory Board

The collaborative research project is supported by an advisory board of internationally recognized scholars in the business history of fashion, beauty, and consumption. Over the course of the project, the panel will provide intellectual guidance to the Principal Investigators and expand the geographical reach.

Professor Geoffrey Jones is the Isidor Straus Professor of Business History at the Harvard Business School in Boston, USA, and author of more than two dozen books, including Beauty Imagined: A History of the Global Business History (2010).

Professor Hartmut Berghoff is on leave from the Institute of Economic and Social History at the University of Göttingen while serving as director of the German Historical Institute in Washington, DC, USA. He is a specialist in the cultural history of German business with reference to consumer society.

Professor Giorgio Riello of the University of Warwick in the UK is a specialist on the economic history of globalization who has published extensively on global fashion from the early modern era to the present. His participation in the advisory panel will help the research team to situate their research on fashion and 'cultural encounters' within the 'longue durée'.
