Conference in Stockholm

Swedish Innovations and High Street Fashion: Past, Present and Future

Our Associated Partner, the Centre for Business History Stockholm, organized a public conference on Swedish Innovations and High Street Fashion: Past, Present and Future at the Swedish Centre for Architecture and Design in Stockholm in March 2014.

Ingrid Giertz-Mårtenson, senior advisor to the Centre and an project team member, collaborated with Centre chief executive Alexander Husebye and his staff to organize this event.

This afternoon conference featured talks by fashion-industry professionals, business historians and public historians, who considered different aspects of the fashion business during the second half of the twentieth century with particular reference to retailing.

The Stockholm conference attracted an audience of nearly one hundred people, including marketing managers; academics from fashion studies, history, and marketing departments; students; curators, conservators and archivists; fashion professionals and fashion journalists; and the general public.

Nearly all of the audience members who filled out an evaluation form said they had ‘learned something new’. One attendee found the ‘background in business history and consumer culture theory very useful’, while another indicated they had learned ‘too much to write it all down!’.
